Reggae Vibes and Killer Acoustics: Travis & Catherine’s Wedding

On July 5, 2025, I had the pleasure of DJing Travis and Catherine Halverson’s wedding at the Willard Art Center in downtown Idaho Falls—and this one stands out for a few big reasons.

First: reggae.

Not something I get to play often in East Idaho, but this wedding leaned in. From the mellow roots grooves to the island rhythms that kept people swaying, it was a breath of fresh air in a region that typically leans heavy into country. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoy a good honky-tonk floor-stomper too—but hearing Dirty Heads cut through the brick acoustics of the Chesbro Room? Chef’s kiss.

Ceremony, Cocktail Hour, and Reception Flow

The wedding was beautifully organized across three spaces in the venue:

  • Ceremony: Held upstairs in the Chesbro Room, backed by a gorgeous exposed brick wall. It gave the vows a rustic warmth that played perfectly against the more refined setting of the rest of the gallery.
  • Cocktail Hour: Took place in the upstairs balcony art gallery, where guests mingled among pieces on display while I provided ambient Ethiopian Jazz music from a distance.
  • Reception: Hosted downstairs in the ballroom, which easily ranks as one of the best-sounding venues I’ve ever worked in across East Idaho and western Wyoming. I brought a modest rig—just an 18” sub and two 15” JBL two-way speakers—and the clarity, balance, and natural acoustics of the room were next level. No peaking. No pushing. Just clean, full, warm sound. I wish every venue sounded like that.

A Chill, Memorable Crowd

Travis and Catherine’s guests were a joy.

Kind, respectful, and genuinely there to celebrate the couple. There wasn’t much pressure for traditional wedding elements—they did a cake cutting, but skipped the garter and bouquet toss. The energy was relaxed, which gave me a lot of freedom to vibe with the room and lean into the couple’s custom playlist.

I didn’t get through every single track they requested (the night flew by), but I hit all the big ones and sprinkled in a few guaranteed floor-fillers to get folks moving. We ended the night with smiles, hugs, leftover cheesecake (yes, I brought some home), and great memories.

Final Thanks

Catherine, you looked stunning.

Travis, equally sharp.

It was a beautiful celebration, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it. Thank you both for trusting me with your big day.

If you ever need a DJ again—anniversary party, vow renewal, backyard BBQ—I’d be honored to spin for you.
