On November 30th, 2024, Vacant Gate and I threw a charity event called The Slime Pit at The Gem in Idaho Falls. It was one of the funnest and most rewarding experiences I have had so far in my DJ/music career.
Shortly after Vacant Gate’s 2024 Reoccuring Nightmare, which I played in, I approached Vacant Gate about teaming up to throw a charity event or party to raise funds for those who are less fortunate. Christmas was coming up afterall and I just had the itch to make something happen. My very first event, as a co-host, and it was happening soon. I was excited. But I had really no idea what I wanted to do to make this event stand out. I knew that I wanted to utilize the US Marine Corps Toy For Tots Program. And then it hit me. What toy did I love as a child? The Slime Pit!
The Slime Pit is a play set in the Masters Of The Universe toy line. The play set consisted of a plastic base that was sorts bowl shaped where you placed your He-Man action figure. Once secured in place with a set of bone claws, you tilted the big skull downwards and green slime would cover your action figure, rendering it into a spinless slave. Or something like that. It was pretty awesome.
And that’s what I though would be fun. We would build a literal Slime Pit loosly based off that old play set and we would actually slime party attendees, Nickelodeon style. And I found a really good recipe in YouTube for the slime. All we had to do was secure the The Gem for the night. And we did.
We wanted this party to be a local DJ exhibition show with breaks in the music to slime people and to give away raffle prizes. So we booked a bunch of local talent to perform. Our lineup included:
- Braindeadd
- Dalted Dubzkill
- Hailz to the Yes
- KNNY
- Pablo
- Psyche
- RapzL
- T-Engine
- The Idahoan
- Tryvmph
- Vacant Gate
- Weird Science
- Zenny
We raffled off tickets to upcoming shows and a few giftcards. But the real winners of the night were all the children who will benefit from the toy collection. We collected 3 big boxes of toys during the night. And we packed the club. It was a very successful turnout.
Oh, and we slimed a BUNCH of people! Once people saw what we were doing, we had a lot of volunteers for the pit.
Massive thanks goes out to our very gracious and kind sponsors who made it possible for us to pay our DJs and to buy the slime ingredients – Chesbro Music Company, The Gem, and Atlantic Progression.
