On May 30th, I had the absolute pleasure of providing the soundtrack for the final day of school at Dora Erickson Elementary in Idaho Falls—and what a way to kick off summer! Each year, the school treats its students to a dance party on the last day, and this time, I was honored to be their DJ.
It was a perfect Idaho day—warm, sunny, and just breezy enough to keep things cool. I set up my gear on the blacktop at the back of the school, facing the sports field, where a few hundred students gathered to let loose and celebrate the end of the school year.
From the very first track, the energy was sky-high. The kids wasted no time running up to make song requests—about 800 of them, give or take (despite the faculty’s best efforts to limit them!). Some requests were a little…ambitious (parents, if your kids are asking for Travis Scott at elementary school dances, we might need to talk 😅), but I did my best to keep things fun and age-appropriate.
Beyond the dancing, the students were a joy to be around. I signed yearbooks, autographed t-shirts, and answered tons of curious questions about the DJ equipment. The whole experience was a reminder of how powerful music is—especially when it brings that much joy to young hearts.
Big thanks to the staff and faculty at Dora Erickson Elementary for trusting me to be part of this special day. If they’ll have me back, I’d be thrilled to do it again next year.
Until then—happy summer, Dora Erickson!
